Yesterday our group had the honor and privilege to visit a school in Cambodia where the students range from ages 4 to 25. The students performed traditional songs and dances. I honestly do not think I stopped smiking once. Not only were the students phenomenal and so talented, it gave me the opportunity to experience the heritage and culture that the Khmer people could hold so close to their hearts.
Afterwards, I learned that most of the students at that school were there because they had experienced abuse, neglect, or their parents just did not have the means to support them. With all the children had been through, the joy of the Lord could be seen EVERYWHERE! The school was such a beacon of light in this dark place. Our group was then able to teach/practice English with the students, but I probably learned more Khmer that day than I have the entire trip.
Despite our language differences, we laughed, smiled, and even sang together. The children took genuine interest in our group and were so eager to learn more. Our visit there was such a blessing and I am so thankful for that experience.
These children have the abiliy to do great things for Cambodia.
