Moments I Missed

I have always thought that I tried to follow Gods will in my life but after coming to Cambodia realized that I was really only doing this part time. After practicing for a week of “Living Missionally” I realized how many moments I was missing in my life to show someone of Gods love. In Siem Riep I was expecting a time where we were able to learn more about Cambodia and their culture, build stronger relationships with those in our team, and be introduced to a ministry there as well. God always has surprises in store and likes to remind us that he is at work even when not in the planned ministry moments, when we least expect it, when living missionally, and being open to him using us for His purpose.

This was the picture as we were returning from a boat ride out to the floating village in Siem Riep. On the roof of our boat as it was returning to dock, Connie began speaking with our van driver who we invited on our boat trip as well. He was a friend of Don our tuk-tuk driver and he also had another friend who was a tuk-tuk driver in Siem Riep as well. We also invited him and made it a party. Here on the roof of our boat a conversation about these men and their families led to a conversation about Christ and what he did for us and his love for them. As the tuk-tuk driver from Siem Riep was listening he began inching closer and closer wanting to hear more and more about this amazing God and soon both men were wanting to pray and ask God into their hearts and publicly profess their faith. The excitement in their eyes and the power of their prayers was moving. You could feel the holy spirit move and that God was present even in this most unexpected of places.

In a place and time where there was no “planned ministry”, where we were allowing God to work through us in those opportune ministry moments. After celebrating with them with shouts of joy and tears their joy was immediately apparent. Through the ministry that tuk-tuk driver Don has been doing we were able to get them Bibles as well as set them up with churches and people who will disciple them so that they can continue in their new relationship with Christ.

It is our prayer that they will continue to grow in their faith and tell others of their new amazing God. There is hope that is spreading and growing in this country and God is the initiator. He is there even in those unexpected moments. Will you be open to His plans and allow Him to work through you? If you don’t you may have just closed a door for someone to know the love of Christ and the best adventure you could ask for.
